It has been reasonably well established that test takers can sometimes answer correctly some reading comprehension passages without reading the passages on which the questions are based.

This issue was studied with the new Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in a study designed to determine the strategies by which examinees are able to achieve better-than-chance performances without reading the : Donald E.

Passage Dependence of Reading Comprehension Questions The data from these activities were used as the basis for the categories in the final checklist.

Possible strategies were classified as (a) reasoning strategies, (b) using personal knowledge or experience, (c) strategies for vocabulary questions. New SAT reading passages are academic. Generally, SAT readings come from books that you might read in high school or college, and that makes sense.

The SAT Reading test is 65 minutes and has 52 multiple-choice questions, each of which has four answer choices. There are five passages total: four single passages and one set of paired passages, with – words per passage or passage set. SAT Reading Passages will draw from U.S.

After you read the following passage, the practice questions will. Strong reading comprehension strategies on the SAT are vitally important for a high score in the Critical Reading section, just as a strong vocabulary is.

One of the places that students frequently have trouble with reading comprehension (and might not even realize it) is on the dual-passage SAT Critical Reading questions. The Black Book references questions in the first four official SAT practice tests, so if you buy this book you should also download those four official SAT practice tests (for free!).

The Black Book is particularly helpful on the Reading section, with a list of particular meanings of words like "anticipate" or "counter" that you'll need to know.
